Any Dream Will Do

This is one of Joseph's songs in Andrew
Lloyd Webber's Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. It's actually one of my favorite pieces in that musical. The other two being Song of the King (7 Fat Cows) and Those Canaan Days.

I remember this musical with fondness because it was the very first major production, of any type, that I ever got involved in. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat was staged by the OMI (Oblates of Mary Immaculate) at the Notre Dame University in Cotabato City. And since I couldn't (and still can't) sing or dance, I was not made part of the cast.

They thought I was more of a visual artist (whatever that meant) so they made me paint the scenery. At least I got to see the show for free.

Well, it was a hit. And it was f-u-n.

Anyway this Any Dream Will Do version is by Jason Donovan. (For the young ones, and those pretending to be *young*, Jason Donovan is the guy Kylie Minogue is singing with in Especially For You.)

If you're curious about the song, you may download the mp3 by clicking this link.

Any Dream Will Do

[Joseph]

I closed my eyes, drew back the curtain
To see for certain what I thought I knew
Far far away, someone was weeping
But the world was sleeping
Any dream will do

[Joseph & Children]
I wore my coat, with golden lining
Bright colours shining, wonderful and new
And in the east, the dawn was breaking
And the world was waking
Any dream will do

[Joseph]
A crash of drums, a flash of light
My golden coat flew out of sight
The colours faded into darkness
I was left alone

[Joseph & Children] May I return to the beginning
The light is dimming, and the dream is too
The world and I, we are still waiting
Still hesitating
Any dream will do

[Joseph]
A crash of drums, a flash of light
My golden coat flew out of sight
The colours faded into darkness
I was left alone

[Joseph & Children] May I return to the beginning
The light is dimming, and the dream is too
The world and I, we are still waiting
Still hesitating
Any dream will do
